From/To Athens Airport

From/To Athens Airport "El. Venizelos"

1. Metro Line 3(Blue) or Suburban Railway

a) From Airport to City Center:

Metro and Suburban Railway share the same platform. On arrival, to get there, you will need to go outside the airport cross the two roads through zebra crossings and use the escalator or the elevator to get on the upper level(depratures level). On the upper level follow the long path to the station.

  • Metro Line 3(Blue) goes directly to the city center. The first journey is at 6:30 and the last at 23:30, and its frequency is every 30min. Metro Line 3(Blue) Timetable from/to the Airport Map from Wikipedia

  • Suburban Railway get you to the suburbs of Athens and you need to change with the same ticket to Metro Lines in order to reach the city center. You can change either to Metro Line 3(Blue) at Doukissis Plakentias (Δουκίσσης Πλακεντίας) station or to Metro Line 1(Green) at Neratziotissa (Νερατζιώτισσα) station. Both Metro lines go to the city center. The first journey is at 5:52 and the last at 22:50, and its frequency is 2 journeys per hour. Suburban Railway Timetable from Airport(pdf) Map from Wikipedia

If your final destination is near a Metro Station of Lines 2(Red) or 3(Blue), the most convinient is to wait and get the Metro Line 3(Blue). If you are in a hurry get the first train and if it is Suburban railway then change to Line 3(Blue) at Doukissis Plakentias (Δουκίσσης Πλακεντίας) station.

If your final destination is near a Metro Station of Line 1(Green), then probably the faster and most convinient is to get the Suburban railway and change to Line 1(Green) at Neratziotissa (Νερατζιώτισσα) station.

Suburban railway can get crowded near Doukissis Plakentias (Δουκίσσης Πλακεντίας) and Neratziotissa (Νερατζιώτισσα) stations, stay alert but don't panic as on both stations many people get off the train. Try to use the last wagons where usually there are less people.

Metro Line 3(Blue) can get crowded after Panormou (Πανόρμου) station, if your final destination is before Syntagma (Σύνταγμα) Station, where many people get off the train, be prepared to get off on your station. Also make sure you are always aware of your belongings.

Metro Line 1(Green) has some trains with 5 wagons and some with 6, so avoid to wait at the end of the platform, try using the start or the middle of it.
